"Fathers, both you and the English are white, we live in a Country between; therefore the Land belongs to neither one nor to other; But the Great Being Above allow'd it to be a Place of Residence for us; so Fathers, I desire you to withdraw, as I have done our Brothers the English; for I will keep you at Arms length. I lay this down as a Trial for both, to see which will have the greatest Regard to it, and that Side we will stand by, and make equal Sharers with us" -Half King, Indian chief.
Imagine this: You've lived in the same room your whole life. You love your room and you hate it when people invade and decide to just pop on in without asking. Especially your little brother. He's five years younger than you, but he thinks he's just as smart and cool as you are. Wouldn't it be annoying if all the sudden he comes in your room (without knocking) and decides he's going to move in? The Native Americans were the first to live in America. They fought back against the French and the British since they invaded their land. The Native Americans used trade to try to stabilize self-rule and liberty. However in the end they decide that the land is neither of theirs, it belongs to the "Great Being Above" (or in the analogy, your parents).
The Native Americans played the two other sides against each other to benefit themselves. However, they did ally with the French during the war. Considering they beat Washington, and the Indians wanted to be on the winning side. The French also wanted to trade rather than farm on Indian land. This one the favor of the Native Americans.
The French let the Natives do the hunting to trade them for furs. The French convinced them to convert to catholicism. Many tribes traveled longs distances to fight. This let the French believe the Native's were reliable. The Ohio Indians made and peace agreement with England, declaring that the British would abandon claims to their land in Ohio. The British later broke their promise to the Indians. Without their Ohio allies, the French were weakened. The Catholic Indians remained their allies until 1760. However, they later surrendered to Britain from lack of support. This allows Britain to win the war.
